This webinar is presented by the Mental Health Commision of Canada in collaboration with JA Canada | Made possible by Z Zurich Foundation
The Mental Health Commission of Canada reports that one in every five Canadians experiences a mental health or substance use condition within a given year. These conditions often first develop during adolescence. While people often know a lot about physical illness, most people have less knowledge about mental health or substance use conditions. This lack of understanding often leads to fear and negative attitudes toward those living with these conditions and prevents adults from providing appropriate support to young people around them, and youth from seeking help for themselves. This webinar is designed to offer practical mental health information, confidence and skills.
This webinar is designed to support facilitators delivering JA learning experiences to youth in having safe and constructive conversations around mental health. After watching the webinar, participants will be able to:
Understand what is means to be a safe adult
Recognize signs that a young person may be experiencing a decline in their mental health
Understand how to facilitate mental health content and conversations safely
Be able to have safe conversations that encourage young people to talk about and reflect on their mental well-being
Know how and when to provide contact information for organizations and professionals who can support with mental health
Understand the importance of self-care
Know when information shared should be followed up to ensure the safety of youth
